The Old Scotch 2nd XI secured a vital 62-run victory over Old Camberwell, putting themselves firmly in contention for a spot in the finals.

Batting first on a solid pitch, we posted a competitive total of 7/246. The standout performance came from Mitch Sennitt, whose brilliant innings of 128 anchored the innings and laid the foundation for the team's success. Sennitt's controlled aggression was a delight to watch as he punished anything short and put pressure on the Old Camberwell bowlers throughout his knock.

He was well supported by Tom Fish (27), who provided stability in the middle order, and Charlie Schilling (24), whose quickfire cameo kept the scoreboard ticking. Together, they helped us reach a formidable total.

In reply, Old Camberwell was never really able to keep up with the required rate, as the Old Scotch bowlers delivered when it mattered. Joel Bennett was the star with the ball, claiming 3/30, supported by Tom Fish, who also bagged 3/29. John Stavris also took 2/16 to ensure Old Camberwell's chase never gained momentum.

In the field, Henry Alexander's direct hit run out was a highlight, as he seized the opportunity to dismiss a key batsman and further increase the pressure on Old Camberwell's chase.

The win has boosted our finals chances, and with the team firing on all cylinders, they’ll be eager to build on this momentum heading into the final rounds of the season.

OLD SCOTCH 3XI 3/142 (36.1)

def. OLD CAREY 9/141 (40)

M. GRIFFITHS 48*, J. COBB 34, F. STRONG 3/27, H. PARSONS 2/8

The 3rds headed back out to Bulleen, this time against Old Carey in a crucial fixture with Old Scotch positioned 3rd and Carey 4th with Old Trinity clipping at our heels one game out of Finals sitting 5th. With the game being fixtured on a Saturday availability was difficult so the team had some new faces adding to the challenge.

Losing the toss, we were sent into the field which in hindsight was a blessing as the temperatures in the 2nd innings were scorching. Opening was Harry Parsons (2/8 from 8) and Fred Strong (3/27 from 8). Parsons as per, broke through early managing to find the edge which went flying in the direction of Nick Bruce who had the ball burst through his hands however, quick reactions from Nic Bennett at first slip saw him dive behind Bruce and unbelievably catch the ball. Strong opened his account early with some tidy glovework from Josh Cobb managing a stumping. Carey began to put some partnerships together with wickets falling at 3-59 and 4-90 after being 2-16. However, we managed to put the clamps on them only allowing an addition 51 runs of the last 14 overs with Carey 9/141 after 40.

Griffiths and Cobb headed to the middle, and both started very positively, Cobb departed for 36 at 1/56 after displaying his vast depth of shots, Norman entered and picked up where Cobb left maintaining the run rate and working well with Griffiths departing for 19. Nick Bruce was in next and made the most of the smaller boundaries slogging 3 sixes before being caught in the deep. We managed to chase their total in 28.4 overs with Griffiths being a star performer with the bat scoring 48*.

Next week will be a challenge as we face Caulfield who are undefeated on the year as we seek to lock ourselves into the top 4.

— Nic Bennett (3XI Captain)
