OLD SCOTCH 2XI 6/198 (40)

def. by MCC 6/199 (38.3)

M. WINNEKE 64*, M. SENNITT 37, L. APPU 3/28, L. GANCE 1/26

The OSCC 2XI came agonizingly close to securing a vital win against MCC yesterday in a thrilling encounter, but ultimately fell just short in a contest that went down to the wire. Batting first, OSCC posted a solid total of 6/198 off their allotted 40 overs, but MCC chased it down with 6 wickets in hand, finishing at 6/199 off 38.3 overs. The loss leaves OSCC in 6th place, just one game outside finals contention as the first half of the season draws to a close.

OSCC got off to a strong start with key contributions throughout the innings. Winneke was the standout performer, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 64*, playing a crucial role in the team’s total. His patient and composed knock ensured that the team had a competitive total to defend. Nick Sennitt continued his solid form with 37 runs, while Griffiths (28) and Shearer (27) provided valuable middle-order contributions. Despite these positive efforts, the OSCC innings stuttered slightly in the latter stages, with Fyfe adding a useful 12* to ensure they finished with a competitive total.

With a challenging total to defend, OSCC's bowlers gave it their all. Laxman Appu was the standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 3/28 from 8 overs, including 2 maidens. His ability to break partnerships was key in keeping the pressure on MCC. Lachlan Gance also delivered a disciplined spell, taking 1/26 from 8 overs, with 3 maidens, and putting the brakes on MCC’s chase. James Fyfe contributed with the ball as well, finishing with economical figures of 0/7 from 2 overs, although he was unable to make a breakthrough.

Despite these strong individual efforts, MCC's batsmen were able to hold their nerve and chase down the target in 38.3 overs, securing a close win.
