OLD SCOTCH 1XI 3/121 (14.4)
def. PEGS 119 (38.3)
S. GOODWILL 30, W. CLARK 17* & 3/24, S. SHEARER 5/13 & 57*, C. LOVERIDGE 1/21
On another wet and gloomy Sunday morning the boys rolled in the Meares and were pleased to see the rain and passed and the sun had started to shine. We won the toss and with the rain all morning we decided to bowl. With Goady back in the side this week, we were able to come out strong as he and Sam started us off nicely. We could tell early that today was going to be Sam’s day. Sam struck with his 2nd ball and we were away. He continued to bowl beautifully as he got wickets in his 3rd and 4th overs and put together one of the best opening spells of the year. All of our bowlers continued to bowl well with patient lines and lengths allowing us to constrict PEGS and keep there run rate low. We managed to take wickets all through the day and some late innings sweeping from Clark and Shearer had PEGS all out for 119. Big shoutout to Sammy who recorded his first Daddy 5fa with a brilliant day with the ball 5/13.
After last weeks washout, we knew a bonus point could be crucial. So we swung the order around and gave Sam “Stickers” Goodwill a crack at the top. Our innings didn’t quite start the way we wanted with Hamish Francis getting bounced out on the 1st ball of the innings. However, that didn’t stop Sam Shearer from continuing to dominate this game, immediately as he came to the crease he showed his intent. Both Sams begun their assault going at 8na over through the powerplay and giving us a great chance at the BP. Sam Goodwill was eventually dismissed for 30 in the 9th over. After this, the runs continued to flow as we cruised to PEGS’ 119 in just 14.4 overs. Andrew Callaghan (14) and Will Clark (20*) played the supporting role as Sam Shearer smashed his way to 57* off just 38 balls as he capped off a superb day. First 5fa and first 50 after the birth of his Son Harry, what a great day for the Daddy.

OLD SCOTCH 2XI 6/192 (40)
def. NORTH BALWYN 8/189 (40)
M. SENNITT 80*, C. SCHILLING 29, E. JONES 4/35, T. LOVERIDGE 1/21
On a tricky day for batting at the Melville, the 2XI set a competitive total after batting first in unusually slow conditions with a sluggish outfield. Openers Sennitt and Schilling provided a positive start, with Schilling contributing a solid 29. However, the day’s standout performance came from Mitch, whose unbeaten 80* anchored the innings and steered the team to a strong total. Mitch formed crucial partnerships with Groom (27) and Cobb (20*) as OSCC closed their 40 overs at a competitive 6/192.
With a challenging total to chase, Nth Balwyn’s chase started in measured fashion, but OSCC's bowlers initially made the breakthrough. A superb run-out, followed by a controversial moment when the non-striker was ruled not out after a fingertip touch from Stavris redirected the ball onto the stumps, injected some life into the fielding side. Despite this, the middle period of play proved difficult as two set Nth Balwyn batsmen began to accelerate, bringing the chase to 3/150. However, the game swung dramatically when Tom Loveridge broke the dangerous partnership, removing the set batsman. With just 20 runs required and time running out, the situation looked increasingly tense. Enter Ed Jones. After returning for his second spell, Jones produced a magical over, claiming three wickets in rapid succession to finish with remarkable figures of 4/35 from 8 overs.
With just one over remaining, Nth Balwyn required 9 runs. Stavris held his nerve, taking a crucial wicket, and teaming up with Charlie Hocking for a run-out to seal the victory. OSCC emerged victorious by 3 runs in a nail-biting finish, moving them into the top 4. It was a fantastic all-round performance, with key contributions with both bat and ball ensuring a memorable win..

OLD SCOTCH 3XI 7/163 (39)
def. OLD WESLEY 39 (28.1)
N. BENNETT 54, S. MCLELLAN 38, H. PARSONS 4/8, F. STRONG 1/1
A 10 man Old Scotch thirds were sent in to bat against Wesley at their Glen Waverly campus. Batting wise the team had set a goal aiming to bat all the allotted overs which had not occurred yet this season. Opening with Griffiths and Makowski they both started strongly with both bats capitalising on the smaller boundaries. However, both bats were quickly removed leaving Scotch 2/28 after 6.2 overs. Mclellan and Bennett were now at the crease which was extremely concerning as the tail began at 5 with Gary Bennett next in who probably hasn’t batted that high in 20 years. Mclellan and Bennett both dug in and saw off the openers who bowled all their allotted overs scoring predominantly quick singles which proved challenging for Mclellan returning for his first game after incurring a hamstring injury. At drinks we had rallied to a total of 2/76 with both batsmen on 16 runs and a handy contribution from the extras tally. Post drinks the batsmen looked to increase the run rate with Mclellan advancing to a spinner and clearing the rope for 6 who was unfortunately dismissed a few balls later for 38 ending a 77 run partnership. Bennett remained an anchor for the team whilst the tail end was encouraged to play aggressively which helped push the total up to 163/7 with all overs exhausted seeing Bennett score 54*.
After a rain delay before beginning the bowling innings Parsons and Gary Bennett opened the bowling. Parsons – who had been dismissed cheaply in the batting innings – was spirited and was bowling the quickest we have ever seen him. Parsons tore through the Wesley top order taking 4/8 with 4 maidens. Leaving our other bowlers the task of cleaning up the tail which was done efficiently by Prior, Strong, Smith and our debutant Rice taking 1 wicket each. Wesley had been bowled all out for 39 granting a value bonus point to the 3rds who now sit 2nd on the ladder heading into their last fixture of the year against Whitefriars..
