With a wet and weary start to the day we finally got under way at 2:15pm with a 30/30 game being decided upon. With a delayed start, you never know how the boys may be feeling after sitting down for 2 hours waiting for the rain to pass.
After losing the toss, Maccabi sent us in to bat hoping to extract any help they could from the softer conditions. However, even the rain couldn’t stop Wisey from continuing in his own footsteps from the day before. Wisey peeled off 144 for Camberwell on Saturday and started his Sunday the same way, punishing anything that came his way. Sam Dawborn continued his strong start to the year, this time playing the 2nd fiddle to Wisey as they took the 6 over power play for a whopping 46 runs. This onslaught continued for another 6 overs before Sam was dismissed for a well built 35 and their partnership ending at 94. Wisey continued his impressive display of hitting before finally being dismissed for 88 off 63 balls with the score now sitting at 3-155. With our run-rate sitting around 7 an over, Mike Sparks came out and didn’t look like slowing us down as he joined in on the fun and made a quick fire 42. A number of late innings cameos from Clark (18), Callaghan (24*) and Winneke (13) pushed our total to 235 off our 30 overs. A very strong performance from our batting group.
Heading into our bowling innings, knowing Maccabi need 8 an over from the get go, we were always going to be tested right away. Maccabi got off to a flying start with both of their openers showing aggression from ball 1. They were able to take our first 8 overs for 58 and looked well and truely in this fixture. That was until Sam “Stickers’ Goodwill entered the chat. With the short leg side boundary, Stickers had to bowl well to tie the aggressive opposition up, which he certainly did. In the next 10 overs, the game went from 0-58 to 6-100 in a flash. Stickers bowled beautifully taking 2-28 off 6 and arrested the momentum back in our favour. His partner in crime from the other end was the inevitable Will “Doc” Bonwick. Doc continued his good form and on a soft wicket with the batsmen needing to be aggressive, there was only ever going to be one result. Doc’s numerous slower balls, cutters and trickery was always going to be extremely classy in those conditions with the Doc ending up with impressive figures of 4-37. Eventually, we bowled Maccabi out for 168 in the 27th over which resulted in another impressive performance with both bat and bowl for the 1s.
Next week we face a strong opposition and an old combatant in Old Haileybury. This should be another strong contest and one we are exciting to get into.

M. SENNITT 65*, C. SCHILLING 33*, T. LOVERIDGE 1/27, L. GANCE 1/37
It was a game that promised much but ultimately ended in frustration as we fell short in our chase of a sizable total under tricky conditions. The match, reduced to 25 overs per side due to rain, saw us put in the field first after losing the toss. From the outset, we struggled with our discipline, and multiple dropped catches proved costly. The opposition capitalized on our errors, and despite some tight bowling spells in parts, they managed to rack up 214 runs — averaging a hefty 8.5 runs per over. The standout was a brilliant century from their top-order batsman, whose aggressive stroke play made our bowlers pay for every misstep in the field.
We knew we had a challenge ahead of us, but we were far from giving up. With the bat, we showed resilience and composure in what was a competitive chase. Mitch Sennitt’s unbeaten 65* was the standout contribution, holding the innings together in difficult conditions. Charlie Schilling also played a steady hand with 33*, while Tom Loveridge added a valuable 28 to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Despite these individual performances, the required rate was always climbing, and while we fought hard, the pressure of chasing down a steep total in the reduced overs meant we ultimately fell short. We were always a little behind the required pace and, despite a late flurry, couldn't quite make up the ground. It's frustrating to know that with a few key catches held and a bit more luck with the bat, we could’ve been right in the mix. But there's no time to dwell on this one. We’ve got to learn from our mistakes, sharpen up in the field, and come back stronger. Next week, we face Old Trinity on the Meares, and it’s a great opportunity to put things right. Let’s take the positives, keep our heads up, and focus on performing to our full potential.

B. MAKOWSKI 33, N. BENNETT 31 & 1/16, S. PRIOR 2/31, C. SMITH 1/18
On a hot, windy saturday MCC hosted the 3rds at Beaumauris. Winning the toss we elected to bat first with the pitch dry and firm and the outfield cut very finely.
Ben Makowski returned as an opening batsmen whilst James Fyfe was given the opportunity to open the batting. Makowski got off to an electrifying start making the most of the quick outfield hitting 7 fours and punishing the loose deliveries whilst Fyfe watched on. The first wicket fell at 47 overs with Makowski knicking off for 33 after the introduction of a former premier first bowler. This provided a pivotal moment to MCC’s bowling innings as the new batsman Ferguson (club debut) was dismissed the very next ball for a golden duck, whilst Fyfe also departed the very next over having go from a comfy 0/47 - 3/47 after 13 overs.
Sam Macaw and Bailey Balot were then at the crease and helped steady the ship as Macaw played some beautiful strokes. After showing a very solid defence Balot was bowled and a set looking Macaw who was intending to increase the run rate danced down playing and missing at the ball departing stumped left the team in a precarious position being 5-77 with only 18 overs remaining. With Mitch Sennitt and Nic Bennett in at the crease the two managed to string a partnership of 52 together running well between the wickets with each other with Sennitt scoring 29 runs before falling. Captain of the 2s John Stavris helped fill numbers and was handy with the bat scoring 14 not out as the tail order all fell for ducks around him unfortunately leaving 5 overs unfaced
Defending 147 Oliver Buckley got off to a great start claiming an early wicket bowling into a strong headwind opening the bowling with John Stavris. With the temperatures in the low 30s bowling was difficult and rotating the bowlers around seemed to disturb the batsmen rhythm the introduction Prior and Smith helped see MCC at 4-62. However from here MCC ran away with the game punishing our bad deliveries for boundaries comfortably chasing down our total
In a disappointing week, We seek to improve on our ability to turn our starts with the bat into larger totals and try to minimise our bad deliveries this week on the Meares against Old Caulfield
