Blistering chase for the first win of the season

SEASON 2022-23 ROUND 3

NOVEMBER 13, 2022

DIVISION ONE

OLD SCOTCH CC 3/163 (22.1)

def. MELBOURNE HIGH 2 161 (39.5)

S Shearer 79, C Cormack 3/25

The First XI again travelled to Melbourne High on Sunday, looking to bounce back from a first up defeat and an interrupted start to the season. With many regulars away, it was up to the young guard and a few mainstays to get the season up and running.

With a fairly bleak weather forecast, captain Sam Shearer won the toss and elected to bowl - in the hope of bowling out MHS fitting in as much of a game as possible. High had other ideas, however, and were fairly resolute with the bat, before finally being bowled out with one ball of the 40 overs remaining. The returning Charlie Cormack was the clear standout with the bowl, finding some rhythm and back to his best with 3/25 off his eight. All other bowlers, Will Clark, Joel Bennett, Harrison Goad, Shearer and Will Bonwick were solid, with wickets shared. Plenty to improve on with the ball and certainly in the field moving forward.

High made a great start with the ball, with Mitch Sennitt removed in the first over by a very good seaming delivery. Despite the early loss, Shearer, ably supported by Sam Dawborn, was able to capitalise on some loose bowling and the pair advanced the score to 1/95, when Shearer was dismissed for 79. After the partnership was broken, Dawborn took over the role of aggressor and batted beautifully to post an unbeaten half-century and see the side home very comfortably three down just after drinks.

It was a comprehensive win in the end, but also many areas for the boys to clean up. Four points in the bank and on to Xavier next week!
