The A-Team were washed out, but all was not lost, as a classy Will Clark century underpinned a magnificent all round performance by the Celebrities in their crushing 62 run win over Old Haileybury away at Haileybury.
Winning the toss, inspirational skipper John Stavris had no hesitation in electing to bat. The early loss of the swashbuckling "Toshy" Gunawardene with the score on 5 was a concern, but, there was no need for concern as Will "Audi" Clark and Mitchell "Roman" Sennitt put on a magnificent 181 run stand to see through the innings until the compulsory closure at 1 for 186. Sennitt was stylish in his 63 not out to continue his rich vein of form, but the day belonged to the flamboyant Clark, who posted a memorable 102 not out to incredible scenes on the sidelines.
Clark celebrated his ton by gorging on KFC post game in an emphatic display that not only were his hunger for runs unmatched, but so was his hunger for fried chicken!
The Old Scotch bowlers needed to bowl well, and that they did, restricted the Old Haileybury batsmen to 6 for 124, with the wily Jono Loveridge snaring 2 for 8 being the pick of the bowlers.
The win leaves the Celebrities in third place on the ladder, while the A-Team sit undefeated at the top of the Division 1 ladder with finals just around the corner.
This weekend the A-Team take on the powerful Old Trinity at Trinity Playing fields on Saturday in a match that will likely decide top spot, while the Celebrities will be taking on Melbourne at Scotch College in a crucial game within the context of their charge to the finals.
Come out and support the lads, as it is always welcomed. In the mean time...
