The evergreen veteran Gary Bennett once again highlighted that there is nothing more valuable than an old dog for the hard road as he sliced through the Old Caulfield batting line up to set up a crushing 113 run win over the Grammarians. The John Stavris inspired Celebrities also registered a bonus point win over an out of sorts Old Geelong by 7 wickets to breath new life back into their season after a faltering start.

Winning the toss, Skipper Sam Shearer had no hesitation in electing to bat on the belter surface at Meares Oval. The Old Scotch batsman responded with an even performance with Shearer's 58 being the top score with notable contributions from vice captain Mitchell with 44 and young guns Nick Shearer (39) and Charlie "Chock" Hocking with 36 rounding out an excellent display as the A-Team notched 210 from their allotted 40 overs..

They have found evidence of Gary Bennett's excellence in the Dead Sea Scrolls, so long has this man been tearing opposition batting line ups apart. Wily, accurate medium fast bowling aligned with an acerbic wit delivered with his customary nasally high pitched voice, ensure that generations of MCC batsmen are only too aware of the bespectacled Old Scotch treasure. Yet again, Bennett brought a batting line yup to grief with his laser accurate seam bowling, capturing 5 Old Caulfield wickets for 29 to remind the youngsters that there is plenty of life in the old dog yet. Old Caulfield were bundled out for 97 as the Scotchies registered a comprehensive 113 win to keep the momentum going in season 2018/19.

Over on the Melville Oval at Scotch, Will "Shot Gun" Meggitt once again showed why he is one of the best fast bowlers in MCC Division 2 as he captured a miserly 4 for 7 to bundle out the hapless Old Geelong line up for a paltry 30. Despite a slight wobble, Fingal Hall made sure the Celebrities got home without too many complications to complete a bonus point seven wicket victory that reinvigorates the Celebrities season.

This week the A-Team are back at Melbourne High School, while the Celebrities host Old Xavs on the Meares at Scotch in what is sure to be an epic encounter, Come on down and give the boys your support as it gives everybody a boost.
