SHEARER SMASHES 85 NOT OUT!

Sam Shearer clouted a brilliant 85 not out to underpin an excellent Old Scotch run chase to overhaul Old Haileybury's 131 over at Haileybury College.

Old Scotch bowled beautifully to restrict the Old Haileybury bastman to 131 - a fine comeback from the mauling they recieved in the last match before Christmas.

With Matthew Dickinson lending vital support with a finely constructed 31,. the run chase went smoothly as the Old Scotch boys won by seven wickets in an impressive alround display. However, the day belonged to Shearer as he pasted the bowling to all parts to continue his impressive run of scores with the bat.

Old Scotch are now in finals contention and will be looking to consolidate their position in the coming weeks starting with next weeks game against Old Trinity at home on Saturday.

The Celebrities took on Old Brighton at Meares in what was a rematch of last seasons 2nd Division semi-final. In strange circumstances mirroring the semi final, the Meares pitch was bone dry with large cracks belying the recent rain. Also like the semi final, the Scotchies lost the toss and were asked to bat and were tumbled out for a sub par 99.

Again, just like last seasons semi final, the Old Scotch bowlers breathed life into the game by taking wickets and harrying the Brightonians all the way to the target. Old Brighton won yet again, this time by four wickets, to leave the Celebrities struggling in the celler of the 2nd Division table. They will be looking for a lift in performance against Old Whitefriars on Sunday at Meares.
