Sam Shearer starred with bat and ball as the Celebrities got their 2nd Division title challenge off to a winning start with a hard fought, narrow four run win against Melbourne Cricket Club Red at HG Smith Reserve.

Shearer composed a majestic 70 with the bat and then chimed in with 3/31 with the ball to complete an inspired all round display. For the home team, ex AFL Crows dual premiershiup player Nathan Bassett smashed up 59 to keep MCC in the game as wickets fell around him.

Highlight of the day was Mark "Money Shot" Griffiths brilliant running and juggling catch during the pressure cooker last over of the day on the long on boundary that was an early contender for catch of the summer...until Griffo stepped over the boundary with ball in hand and the umpire signalled six priceless runs. You had to be there!

Haydos Heroes unfortunately were not so lucky in their debut 3rd Division clash against a pumped up Old Wesley seeking to make a statement as Haydos boys plunged to a crushing 203 run defeat.

Jack Otter top scored with 26 and Rami Imam was also solid with the wood. Ed Gillies took a 3 fer with the ball and had the distinction of scoring the first runs for the new combo.

Jono "Houses" Leggo set the bench mark in the field with his safe hands, putting down three dollies in an inspired five over spell of top shelf Jonty Rhodes quality fielding! It even happens to the best of us Jono!

The A Team will get their 1st Division title charge under way this week as they take on Old Trinity at Trinity Playing Fields on Saturday afternoon. Get around Tommy Murray and the boys in their quest for more Old Scotch glory.
